AN ORDINARY JAR. AN EXTRAORDINARY DIFFERENCE.
Vaseline® has long been the ‘go to’ solution for relieving dry & cracked skin in households all over the world.
This year they have partnered with international medical aid organisation Direct Relief and they are on a mission to help restore the skin of 5 million people living in vulnerable conditions by 2020.
Together with Unilever, The Vaseline® Healing Project is just one of the ways they have pledged to create a bright Future for all people, through its commitment to the Global Goals for Sustainable Development and its own Sustainable Living Plan, adopted in 2010.
The Vaseline® Healing Project will bring training, treatment and relief to communities in need.
With this project, Vaseline® is actively working towards Goal No 3: Good Health and wellbeing, because Vaseline® understands that, without care, the simplest skin conditions can turn into serious issues that make it difficult to do the simplest everyday tasks.
Did you know that 90% of HIV patients develop serious skin problems?
Ntokozo Ngubane, a local KZN community nurse said that, “Many kids here have HIV and so they get serious skin problems. I see it all the time. It is a big problem. They get worse when they are not treated.”
Ntokozo is one of the 372 nurses, doctors and other medical professionals who attended a series of dermatological training days in May this year, hosted by the Vaseline® Healing Project at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital Nurses’ Hall and headed up by Dr Ncoza Dlova, Head of Dermatology at the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine.
The training missions championed essential skincare by providing dermatological training for nurses and effective treatment for their patients. This national initiative is set to bring training, treatment and relief to all South Africans in the upcoming months, highlighting how one ordinary jar of Vaseline® BLUESEAL can make an extraordinary difference.
To see how one person and one jar of Vaseline® BLUESEAL can help a whole community, please watch the video below:
THE ORIGNAL SKIN HEALER
Vaseline® BLUESEAL, the original skin healer and Number 1 Skin Care brand*, has restored and protected South African families’ skin for over 140 years. With 101 uses, Vaseline® BLUESEAL is the only jelly with a triple purification formula that meets all your skin care needs.
A few of Vaseline® BLUESEAL’s many uses include:
- Apply over scabs, scrapes and minor cuts to protect from the elements.
- Prevent and soothe nappy rash by applying to your baby’s bottom.
- Soothe skin after too much sun or wind by applying to affected areas.
- Prevent and soothe heat or chafing rashes by rubbing into skin in sensitive areas like thighs.
- Massage into feet to soften and restore dry, cracked heels.
Unilever South Africa Skin Care and Hair Care Director, Cathalijne Oudijk, said, “The Vaseline® Healing Project is a perfect example of how our brands with purpose are working, through the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan to improve the health and well-being of people globally. Access to quality care for skin conditions is scarce in South Africa with just one dermatologist for every 3-4 million people in the public sector of health care. Vaseline® wants to empower the men and women on South Africa’s frontline of healthcare – the nurses who often provide the first link between our local healthcare system and communities. By providing nurses with the tools and training to properly diagnose and treat skin problems, we hope to empower, not only them, but the communities they serve, to better understand their skin conditions and how best to treat them before they become more serious.”
SCHOOLS PROGRAMME
Vaseline® knows that serious skin conditions translate into long hours spent at clinics, away from work or school, and this impacts on a family’s security and future. With this understanding, Vaseline® will be visiting 100 schools in local KZN communities. Thousands of students will benefit from the distribution of 101 000 jars of Vaseline® BLUESEAL and learn that serious skin conditions should and can be avoided. In addition, Vaseline® will donate First Aid Kits to each school and provide dermatological training to the school nurses.
Well done to Vaseline®, Direct Relief and Unilever for caring enough to make such an extraordinary difference in the lives of thousands of people living with HIV, by helping to relieve their physical pain and suffering through such a simple thing as just relieving their skin problems!!!
