Mandy | Portait Shoot MakeUp & Hair Styling
Doing Hair & MakeUp on Mandy for her Portrait shoot was quite special, as she was the first person I have worked on in a wheelchair. If I remember correctly, she was in a wheelchair because of having Multiple Sclerosis. And she booked this shoot for herself to celebrate & capture her beauty, before this chronic illness progressed even further.
Mandy’s MakeUp
The mood board for this shoot was mostly Black & White images, and therefore called for dramatic MakeUp that would give a lot of contrast (between light & dark / shadow & Highlights).
So I did quite a dark smokey eye for her using a Dark Brown Eyeshadow with a warm undertone (from Kryolan). And added black eyeliner on her top and bottom lash line. Then I rounded off her eye makeup with Maybelline New York – Great Lash Waterproof Very Black
I sculpted her cheeks (to add to the contrast I mentioned earlier) but I made sure to add a bit off colour with a warm blush, just to soften it up slightly.
While I wouldn’t normally pair a darker lip with dark eyes, Mandy asked for this deep burgundy lip colour. And I thought it would also help to add that required definition in the Black & White images.

Mandy had really thin & fine hair, so I had to curl it and then do quite a bit of teasing together with adding a lot of hairspray to give it a bit of volume. You can’t see the full hairstyle in any of these pics, but it was basically a loosely sweep’d back style, with some height in the front, and the rest of the hair pinned in a ‘messy upstyle’ at the back of her head.
